The Singer 15K is always recognised by its tension unit being on the left face of the machine. Its bobbin had to be inserted into a bobbin case, then the case was inserted into the machine vertically to the left of the needle. When threading the needle it had to be threaded from left to right.
Generally/more usually/later, the Federation/CWS Jones machines had pretty coloured flowers on them and were presumably sold countrywide. Hence, for a branch to have ordered sewing machines from Jones with their own logo they would have had to be pretty large and successful, which the Chelmsford branch was.

Clean out all the grungy bits of fluff and dust, blunt pins, old razor blades and single suspender buttons from the drawers/box/underneath. If the machine is filthy (they tend to be), clean it with a little sewing machine oil on a clean cloth and rub gently. Don't use abrasive cleaners, wire wool on the painted bits, or car polishes, as they can take the patterns off. 
Use a good quality solid wax polish on the wooden bits with a cloth or 000 steel wool if they are really dirty.
Has this machine got a standard flat sided needle? I always steer clear of the earlier Jones machines because they take a round headed needle and aren't worth the bother if you want to use it. I am truly shocked that you thought they were made in Germany. In fact, I think I need to lie down. You might enjoy this site Hi Muv, Yes, the papers do give everything away!

You can find Jones machines and advertising with reference to her as 'Princess Alexandra' and 'Queen Alexandra' and there is a reliable account that while at technical school she did use a Jones machine. Jones was happy to make machines under different names when ordering over 100 machines unlike Singer which would only produce machines with their name on. The different Jones machines can be found appearing under various name such as CWS (Co-operative wholesale society), Whiteley's universal, Federation (which is another machine for the co-operative wholesale society) which are all basically Jones Family CS machines. The Cat-Back design was also sold under the name Eclipse, and The Favourite.
Royal Appointment was a big deal and lead to many orders from Jones Sewing Machines. I spotted this sign at Blist Hill in Ironbridge outside the seamstress' shop. Having Royal Approval was a big money spinner as well as a pat on the back.
